Ying Tianqi was born in Wuhu City, Anhui Province in 1949. He started to do oil paintings in 1968 and became the teacher of Wuhu No.3 and No.22 Middle School. In 1975 his lithograph “Fishing Tidings” was awarded 1st prize of Fine Arts Exhibition of Youth in Anhui Province and exhibited at the 2nd National Fine Arts Exhibition of Youth, Chinese Modern Prints Exhibition and Kanagawa Museum of Art, Japan in 1979. In 1987, he created the watercolor print “Impression of Xidi Village”. The series of Xidi Village was awarded prizes in China as well as overseas such as bronze prize for Xidi Village Series No.2 and 11 at 7th national art exhibition, bronze prize for the Xidi Village Series at 10th and 11th National Prints Exhibition, and the Xidi Village Series No.11 was selected for Autumn Salon show in France. The whole series of Xidi Village was collected by the Muban Foundation of London as well as the British Museum.
